R.I.P. MJ | King of Pop

Jeff Koons, \"Michael Jackson and Bubbles,\" 1998

Jeff Koons, Michael Jackson and Bubbles, 1998

Today was a sad day. Not only did one of Charlie’s Angels, Farrah Fawcett die, but so did Michael Jackson, the King of Pop. I don’t know why, but I’ve always sympathized with MJ. I guess because his life was so tragic, all whilst being so completely legendary. He changed the face of music, and has and will continue to influence music, for generations to come. Even though he definitely had his dark days, I always felt like he was such a tender and fragile soul.

I also finally finished a relatively decent first live mixtape today. This was all unrelated to the events that happened today, but right as I finished, I got a text from my friend saying MJ had died. Though this wasn’t recorded with this intention, I sort of hope it can be an ode to MJ in some way. Strangely enough, I have a Jackson 5/Mike Simonetti edit on it. Rest in peace, Michael, you are cherished and missed!

SUSPIRIA

Suspiria, Goblin, 1997

Just finished watching this Argento masterpiece. I have to say, he never fails to impress. I downloaded the entire soundtrack, all of which was done by Goblin[s], and it’s truly a masterpiece in and of itself. I apologize for the pretty lame visuals, but this particular video stayed the truest to the film + audio’s sound. Hot damn!

AMOR FATI

So Amor Fati is my new favorite quote/concept that I am currently stuck on.

A brief definition I swiped:
Amor fati is a Latin phrase that loosely translates to “love of fate” or “love of one’s fate”. It is used to describe an attitude in which one sees everything that happens in one’s life, including suffering and loss, as good. That is, one feels that everything that happens is destiny’s way of reaching its ultimate purpose, and so should be considered good. Moreover, it is characterized by an acceptance of the events that occur in one’s life. It is almost identical to the Jewish concept of Gam Zu Letova (this too is for the best).”

It’s extremely Zen in its outlook, and also very positive. Good vibes ya’ll. I discovered this phrase/concept whilst reading some of Joseph Campbell’s writing; whom was a prolific and gifted mythologist, philosopher, and scholar. One who has expounded upon this ideal frequently and at length is good ol’ Nietzsche. After learning this, it cleared away his rep of being a complete Nihilist, at least in my mind. Either that or I’m misinterpreting something. Below you’ll find a few of his beautiful quotes on Amor Fati, along with an almost equally beautiful French House track that has swept me off my feet this evening. Enjoy my loves.
