EX ANIMO/AD ASTRA

It’s essentially a live mix (hence the f&*k ups…eeeep! —- channeling the philosophy of wabi-sabi), but was minimally and masterfully edited by musical maestro himself, DJ Maestro P aka Matt Pace, a fellow Shrugger. (Alliteration much?!) He basically salvaged what could be salvaged…BIG UPS!!!! So many thanks to you again Matt

I hope you enjoy these songs as much as I have, and I hope it makes you feel like you’re flying, or maybe even disco dancin’ amongst the stars. I’ll meet you on the astral plane babies

DJ Kaos, Love The Night Away (Tiedye Remix), 2009

A writer from Pitchfork (I know, I know) actually encapsulated an impressive and accurate description of this song: “‘Love the Nite Away (Tiedye Remix)’ is a perfect embodiment of that instant blend of lust and hope and potential, the timeless, youthful search for sensation, visceral feeling and social unity and love, even if it’s only real for that one night, or even that one moment; it’s about losing yourself to another person, when joyful emotion overpowers everything else, neuroses ignored in the wake of unconcerned bliss. How pure and simple life can be.”

Yes, yes indeed.

your slightest look easily will unclose me
though i have closed myself as fingers,
the voice of your eyes is deeper than all roses)

I wanted to upload the actual song, but for some reason it’s not working. Here’s a track from Yura Yura Teikoku’s new album “Hollow Me/Beautiful,” entitled “Ohayo Mada Yaro”:

D R E A M

This song is so beautiful, and I just can’t stop listening to it. It’s so dreamy, and I feel encapsulates so many feelings. Nostalgia, heartache, and probably a lot of emotions that don’t even have names yet. I felt so obsessed by it, and I just wanted to know what he was saying. It was like watching a movie on mute or something. So I had one of my dearest friends Sara translate it, bless her! And the lyrics are just as ethereal as the melody of the song. Enjoy.

When we awake, they sleep
When we sleep, they awake.
On the other side of this world are friends.

The night sky illuminated by stars disappears
and they awake when the sun climbs the horizon
On the other side of this world, are friends we have not met

You search thru the nights and excitement is rare..
only when you’ve given up on everything do you faintly hear the noise;
beats knocking on your window

Well
g’morning
Let’s keep on doin’ it
g’morning
Let’s keep on doin’ it

Someone laughs, someone is sad
Somewhere laughter, somewhere sadness
On the other side of this world..friends

Don’t seek anymore, don’t expect anymore
Even when you’ve given up on everything, it still continues;
beats knocking on your window

Well
g’morning
Let’s keep on doin’ it

Jeff Koons, Michael Jackson and Bubbles, 1998

Today was a sad day. Not only did one of Charlie’s Angels, Farrah Fawcett die, but so did Michael Jackson, the King of Pop. I don’t know why, but I’ve always sympathized with MJ. I guess because his life was so tragic, all whilst being so completely legendary. He changed the face of music, and has and will continue to influence music, for generations to come. Even though he definitely had his dark days, I always felt like he was such a tender and fragile soul.

I also finally finished a relatively decent first live mixtape today. This was all unrelated to the events that happened today, but right as I finished, I got a text from my friend saying MJ had died. Though this wasn’t recorded with this intention, I sort of hope it can be an ode to MJ in some way. Strangely enough, I have a Jackson 5/Mike Simonetti edit on it. Rest in peace, Michael, you are cherished and missed!
